In a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 7th, 2023, Lebron James of the Los Angeles Lakers officially surpassed the record for most points scored in the NBA. The title, previously held by basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, has sat unthreatened for nearly four decades. But throughout his twenty-year long career, James has continuously surpassed even his own wildest expectations. Now nearing 47,000 points, James has solidified his place in not just basketball history but all of sports history. Sitting at number one James (38,652) is in the company of legends as he is followed by Kareem Abdul – Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928), Kobe Bryant (33,364), and Michael Jordan (32,292). In regards to who holds the record for most points scored solely in the play-offs, James holds this record too, with Michael Jordan now in second. It is worth noting Jordan hasn’t played in twenty years, a demonstration of just how remarkable these statistics are.
